GIANNI BASSO (1931 – 2009), Italian tenor sax, composer, conductor.
He started studying the clarinet and then tenor sax, coming 15 years to play in the first group and big band. In the decade 1950-1960, he created with Oscar Valdambrini (trumpet) a quintet and worked with international artists like Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan. Since 1960, he joined the big bands of Kenny Clarke, Maynard Ferguson and Thad Jones, playing alongside Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Art Farmer, Zoot Sims, Johnny Griffin, etc … At his funeral in 2009, the Torino Jazz Orchestra bestow him a nice jam session.
FABRIZIO BOSSO (1973). Italian trumpet player.
In 1999 he was voted “Best New Talent” Italian jazz by a referendum introduced by the Italian magazine “Musica Jazz”. In 2008 he was nominated and subsequently won the Italian Jazz Awards.
