Barry Lough is a pianist and vocalist bringing joy, rock-n-roll, and high-energy classic hits to Calgary-area special events.

A successful meteorologist by trade, after hours, Barry sheds his formal, scientific self and slips into his glittering showman persona. A natural performer with a truly impressive catalogue of musical knowledge, he rocks the keys with a mesmerizing swagger and confidently belts out cross-genre hits. Music is in his soul, and he graciously shares it with audiences of all sizes. To watch him is to be inspired to groove, to dance, to sing, and to take up an instrument of your own.

Music has always been a constant in Barry’s life. Over the years, while simultaneously crafting a laudable career in the environmental sciences, he has cut his teeth on performance venues of all sizes playing trumpet, percussion, and keys in several jazz, rock, and country bands. His diverse musical taste even led to a vibrant stint as a steel pan drummer in a Calypso steel band.

Today, he dexterously hammers the keys in his prolific cover band, Back in the Day. Audiences have the thrill of watching as classic rock hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s are dazzlingly revived while Barry and the other members put on an unforgettable show. The band has become a favorite across Calgary bars and concert venues; their electric stage presence and impeccable set lists have made them mainstays in the city’s Chinese New Year, Halloween, and New Years festivals, among others.

Barry’s drive to perform is undeniable. When the COVID-19 pandemic put an end to in-person performances, Barry dove passionately into online performance. You can bring the magnetic feeling of a live performance straight into your home with his ever-expanding catalogue of covers on his YouTube channel, Just Me on Piano. Since March 2020, Barry has breathed new life into more than 300 hit songs, adding his compelling, energetic spin on classic rock, punk, metal, pop, country, blues, and more. Even on film, his lively stage presence and profound connection to the music are palpable. Viewers who take a deep dive into his video library will be captivated by masterful piano skills and dynamic vocals showcased in everything from Für Elise to Bohemian Rhapsody.

Barry is available for solo gigs, duelling piano acts, and more. Weddings. Birthday. Retirement party. Contact him for more information and to add a little rock-n-roll and a whole lot of charisma to your next party or special event.
